DR. MAGDI SAMI SHARES
HIS CHOLESTEROL
SUCCESS FORMULA
Dr. Sami has been a long time friend and editor of
Robin Behar’s
HEART ATTACK ILLUSTRATED
series of educational video presentations.
Heart Attack Illustrated Presentation contains
descriptions, symptoms, what to do,
how to prepare, risk factors,
how to prevent, answers to questions,
resources and much more.
YOU NEEDED TO LOWER YOUR CHOLESTEROL.
HOW DID YOU DO IT?
Since I already exercise,
the only two other options left were
food and medications.
WHICH OPTION DID YOU CHOOSE?
I chose the food option because I preferred to
avoid medication side effects
and other possible consequences.
HOW DID YOU CHANGE YOUR DIET?
I began to increase the quantity of fish I eat.
I cut out red meat. I continued to eat plenty of fish.
I also cut out chicken. I'm essentially now vegetarian.
Meat and poultry are given low dose antibiotics with their feed. This can be harmful to humans' digestive system.
That's why they are harder to digest than fish.
WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR CHOLESTEROL ?
It dropped to within guidelines of people my age and risk profile. In technical terms, it dropped to under 3.0 int. units.
WHAT EXERCISE DO YOU DO?
I exercise several times a week when I’m not travelling and lecturing abroad.
I like playing tennis because of the social and competitive nature of the game,
plus I get to move around a lot.
I also do yoga.
It’s a mind and body form of exercise which relaxes,
energizes and uplifts me spiritually.
Most important, I start my day with 20 minutes of meditation.
Then I do a few yoga exercises.
This has boosted my immune system immensely.
Actually I recommended this to a patient. The results were to outstanding that she hugged me.
WOULD YOU RECOMMEND THIS SOLUTION TO
YOUR PATIENTS?
Not all of them. There are two groups of people who have high cholesterol.
The first group is those who also have other risk factors:
Coronary arteriosclerosis
Diabetes
Hypertension
Family history of heart attacks
Premature deaths
WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND FOR THE FIRST GROUP?
These people have to take a statin in addition to diet and exercise.
The objective is to lower their LDL (bad cholesterol) levels to
below 2.0 international units.
It is impossible to attain this by diet alone.
WHAT IS A STATIN?
A cholesterol-lowering drug.
WHAT ABOUT THE SECOND GROUP?
The second group are those like myself.
They’re otherwise healthy.
They have no other coronary risk factors.
They have borderline elevated LDL (bad cholesterol).
Those do not “necessarily” need a drug to lower their cholesterol.
Diet and exercise alone can do the trick.
SO YOU WOULDN’T RECOMMEND JUST
DIET AND EXERCISE FOR THE FIRST GROUP
By no means would I recommend that a patient from
Group 1 neglect to take a statin.
YOU EDITED HEART ATTACK ILLUSTRATED
VIDEO PRESENTATIONS A FEW
YEARS AGO.
IS THE INFORMATION PERTINENT TODAY?
Absolutely. I recommend watching it to anyone interested in preventing and learning about heart attacks which is a huge problem today
especially with people who have overweight problems.
